New Delhi: Besides hardware products like computer, sex-trafficking is a flourishing business on Garstin bastion Road, the city's light area, where on an average over Rs 2.5 crore per month is being transacted

On Garstin bastion Road (G B Road), also known as Swami Shradhanand Marg, more than 6,000 sex workers run their business in three storey buildings, above hardware shops. Most of them charge between Rs 50 to Rs 500 per customer and handle three to five customers a day.

According to a pimp Salim Ansari, the maximum demand is for Nepalese followed by girls from, West Bengal and Gujarat.

"Brothel number 64 is very famous for Nepali girls and their charges are more than others," said Kamre Ala, who works in the police post near G B Road as a cook.

Sex-trade on G B Road is divided depending on age and girls from different states and brothels are numbered accordingly, another pimp said, adding that the average age of these sex workers is 16 – 28 years.

Although huge money is being transacted daily, the average money a sex worker earns after paying commission to pimp and police is pittance.

An elderly sex worker at brothel number 41, Tanuja said, "We fear pimps and police as most our earnings goes in paying commission to them. Still, we are leading a happy life. We support each other and are living like a family".

Another woman said that few pimps trouble them by charging more commission by threatening them a police complain.

Despite all, sex workers on G B Road thriving in their business for their survival. The street is always abuzz as colourful girls charm custmers standing on the balcony of their rooms.
